The New York Celtics were established in 1970 under the name of the Fordham Irish American Club.
In 1973, the club became incorporated with the state of New York as the New York Celtics Gaelic Football Club.
The Celtics captured their first title, the Under-10 Championship in 1972.
Since those early years, the New York Celtics have competed in all age groups each year, with considerable success.
1985 stands out as a remarkable year in that five championships were won - a feat that is still unique in the Minor Board.
In 1987 we had a very successful tour of Ireland with the Under-16 age group.
In 1983 the club inaugurated a junior team. At this level, we won the New York Junior “B” championship in 1987 which promoted us to the junior “A” ranks.
There the club was extremely successful reaching the finals on several occasions.
In Juvenile ranks, the 90’s saw dominance by the club on both the U-18 and Under-21 age groups.
The Under-18s completed a remarkable three-in-a-row in 1992-94. In 1995, the Under-21s carried on this success by winning the Robert McKiernan Memorial League title
2007 was a very successful season for Our U – 10A Team winning three competitions.
First, we completed a perfect spring season winning all games including the final.
Secondly, we won the 7 a-side John Brady Memorial Cup Tournament in the early fall.
Thirdly, the team went to the Continental Youth Championship in Chicago, and brought home the winning Cup. The U-10 got to the finals in the fall season facing Rockland but lost marginally in extra time.
For the past 25 years the club has been a place where strangers have become lasting friends, both on and off the field. We hope that this tradition of friendship, formed through the playing of the games, will continue here in the New York area for years to come.
